"We had an amazing day, you could see the girls develop in confidence as the day went on and we can't wait to see Jane and Claire in 12 months time to read our pledges and see if we have lived up to them. Thank you"

Ashton Community College

"We thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. It was both interesting and fulfilling to witness the girls 'develop' their confidence as the day went on. Those who came in with a wary look on their faces as they entered the room left with smiles, giggles and they seemed to be walking a LOT taller. On the way back in the mini bus the girls were buzzing about their experiences and didn't stop yacking to each other. Top marks to both yourself and Jane for an amazing day."

Star Teacher Speaks Up...

‘A group of Year 9's participated in the core Discovery Day at Cockburn Performing Arts School, Leeds.

The girls were given the opportunity to reflect on their school and home lives in a safe environment and it was a new and refreshing way to get across messages we as teachers are continually trying to embed in our practise. It certainly makes all the difference when the girls get the chance to talk to new people that are not their teachers about sensitive subjects like self image and family life.

All the women that took part from Girls Out Loud were wonderful role models for the girls and almost instantly created positive relationships with them. The conversations were valuable and supportive and it was impressive how honest they managed to get the girls to be. This can only be put down to the impressive skills of the women taking part; our girls felt totally comfortable and at ease.

The day was a total success in every way possible and the girls came away feeling empowered and knowledgeable about how the move forward’.

DISCOVERY is a one day interactive, motivating and inspiring workshop packed with fun and empowering activities aimed at increasing awareness of self, pumping up confidence and self esteem and raising aspirations. It is targeted at girls from Year 8 upwards with minimum age to attend being 13.

The Day is lead by the Girls Out Loud senior team and supported by a serious posse of women volunteers from all walks of life including business, the professions, charities, academia, public sector and social enterprises.  Alongside our core Discovery Day we also offer several themed Discovery Days that spend more time focussing on specific challenges and we can tailor the day to meet any school’s specific needs.  Some of the recent themed days that may stimulate interest have included…

DISCOVER YOUR CAREER AMBITIONS:

This day focuses on expanding the girls career horizons, getting them to think about what next, review their strengths and weaknesses, tap into their desires and passion and help them to eradicate the fear of risk which often keeps them stuck and limits their decision-making abilities. We also aim to pump up their emotional resilience and help them understand that career planning is a dynamic process not a linear one!

DISCOVER THE ENTERPRISING YOU:

On this day we introduce the girls to the dynamic, fast paced world of enterprise, facilitating several business games/tasks to excite and motivate them to consider the option of entrepreneurship both as a career option and also as a state of mind. We bring along an awesome team of entrepreneurial women to inspire and motivate them.  Women that run their own businesses and women that are entrepreneurs within big businesses.

DISCOVER THE REAL, CONFIDENT AND AMAZING YOU:

This day zooms in on the emotional issues that define our identity, who we are, what we believe we are capable of etc.  We utilise coaching models and tools to uncover and celebrate the girls individuality and uniqueness which in turn, helps with their self esteem, self respect and self image. This day can have a profound effect on behaviour, specifically where relationships are concerned because as individuals feel better about themselves they set clearer boundaries and demand more respect from others.

DISCOVER HOW TO STAY SAFE:

This day is all about personal safety in the widest sense.  We outline the need to look after yourself online and out and about, in relationships, at home and at school.  We discuss the need to become media savvy and get the girls to take ownership of and value their safety in a range of situations. Their activities on facebook shift dramatically after this one!

DISCOVER YOUR PATH TO HEALTH AND WELLNESS:

This day focuses on personal health with a view to tackling the complex pyscological and behavioural challenges of eating disorders, anxiety, self harming, alcohol abuse and inappropriate sexual behaviour.  By encouraging girls to open up and discuss sensitive topics in a safe environment we earn the opportunity to educate and influence their decisions and embed some personal values and boundaries.

All our Discovery Days are inspirational and powerful and combine self analysis techniques with group work, creativity and communications. We harness the time and experiences of a diverse group of female role models to work with us as team leaders at all our events and this alone has amazing results. Here are some of the key areas the girls are likely to improve:

TEAM WORK:

The girls will be tasked with several team exercises. This will help them understand different roles, assert their own opinions and listen to others, manage their time and understand what needs to be done and by who, works to a common purpose, understand the need for compromise and be heard.

CREATIVITY:

The girls will engage in several creative tasks. This will show them how to brainstorm, encourage them to dream and think outside the box.

CONFIDENCE :

Throughout the day the girls will be asked to express and defend their opinions, present their case to their group and the whole room, be inspired to raise their game by the workshop leaders and the featured role models. They will learn what they are capable of and develop some emotional resilience and recognise that some of what may have held them back is simply a limiting belief and they can dump them!

SENSE OF SELF AND CREATING A POSITIVE PERSONAL IDENTITY:

The day is all about them finding their voice. To start the lifelong personal development journey of understanding who they are and what they want. What motivates them, what are they capable of and most importantly, the fact that they are not defined by what they look like but who they are inside.

Any of the days can be hosted on or off school premises and they work best with a minimum of 50, maximum of 150 participants, all the same age, but not necessarily from the same school.

For more information about hosting a day in your school complete the general enquiry form and we will call you for a general chat within 5 days.
